Who this book is for

This book is for COBOL programmers on MVS systems who want to do online processing of IMS databases.

There are just 2 prerequisites. First, you need to know something about IMS database processing (that's covered in IMS for COBOL, Part 1). Second, you need to be familiar with TSO/ISPF, the MVS facility you use to enter program and MFS format set statements and to request MVS services (this is covered in MVS TSO, Part 1).
