What's on the CD
This book comes with a bound-in CD that gives you software, source code,
and files to help you train in Java even more quickly. You get:
1) Version 1.4 of Java 2 for Windows, also known as the Java
SDK (Java is also available for free from Sun's web site,
but the CD will save you many hours of download time). Chapter
1 of this book shows you how to install Java on your PC so
you can start developing programs in chapter 2.
2) A free trial version of TextPad, a low-cost text editor that's designed
for working with Java.
3) The source code and test data for all of the programs that are used
as examples in the book. You can use these as starting points for your own
programs on the job.
4) All of the source programs and data that you need for doing the exercises
at the end of each coding chapter on your own PC. By using these, you don't have
to start every exercise from scratch.
5) A Readme file that lists the folders and files on the CD and describes
how you can use them.
