Meet the author
Ray Harris is an expert JavaScript programmer. That will be obvious to you as soon as you download and work with the 20 complete applications that he presents in this book.
But Ray is much more than a JavaScript programmer.
He has a Master's degree in Computer Science and Artificial
Intelligence. He worked on advanced research projects
at the Air Force Research Lab while he was in the USAF
and then taught the other staff members how to use those
new technologies. He taught information security and
web development at ECPI College of Technology in Raleigh,
North Carolina, and then became the department head.
In fact, Ray has been programming and teaching since
he was 12 years old.
So when Ray came to us and said he wanted to write for us, it didn't take us long to hire him. Not only did he have the technical skills that we were looking for, but his previous writings showed that he had an uncommon ability to think, write, and teach. Now, some 15 months later, this JavaScript book is Ray's first book off-press, and we think it just may be our best book ever.
Like all our books, this one is clearly a Murach book that uses our unique "paired pages" method of presentation, has dozens of coding examples, and is filled with complete applications.
But Ray has taken our methods to a new level. Like
presenting the best practices for web development from
the first chapter to the last. Like presenting a carefully
integrated set of object-oriented libraries that you
can use as you develop your own applications. Like never
taking the easy way out when there was an educational
objective at stake.
In short, at every page, you'll find that Ray's goal
is to teach you how to create websites that deliver
the dynamic user interfaces, fast response times, and
special effects that today's users expect. But even
better, you'll find that Ray achieves that goal...whether
you're a programming novice or an experienced JavaScript
programmer who wants to move on to the expert level.
