What software you need
For chapters 1 through 18 of this book, you can download all the software you need from Microsoft's web site for free. That includes:
- The Express Edition of SQL Server 2005*
- The Express Edition of the SQL Server Management Studio*
In appendix A in the book, you'll find complete instructions for installing these items on your PC. And in chapter 2, you'll learn how to use them.
For chapters 19 through 21, it's a different story. Unfortunately, the CLR integration features described in these chapters are not available from the Express Edition of Visual C# 2005 or Visual Basic 2005. As a result, you'll need to purchase and install one of the full editions of Visual Studio 2005 if you want to take advantage of CLR integration.
*Note: You need to be running under Windows
2000 or later in order to use the SQL Server 2005 software.
