What software edition you need
Visual Basic 6 is available in 3 different editions: the Learning Edition,
which costs around $100; the Professional Edition, which costs around $500;
and the Enterprise Edition, which costs more than $1000. As you might guess,
if you have the Professional or Enterprise edition, you can do everything
in this book.
The good news for readers with a limited budget, though, is that you can
learn most of the essential skills in this book with just the Learning Edition.
The primary exceptions are chapters 9, 10, and 11, which show you how to
use the new VB6 database tools, and chapter 14, which shows you how to develop
web applications. These features just aren't included in the Learning
Edition.
Beyond that, you'll find that the Learning Edition doesn't support
a few of the features that are presented in other chapters of the book.
But Appendix C gives you a complete summary of those limitations…and
the ways to work around them.
