When we decided to let VSAM for the COBOL Programmer go out of print, we knew that there were programmers who could still use the content. But we no longer had the book stored in electronic format. So to make it available on CD, we scanned the entire book into PDF format.
Because the CD version is a scanned-in PDF, there are a couple of factors you need to be aware of before you buy:
- The PDF file is large and the pages may take longer to print than the PDFs you normally work with.
- The quality of any pages you print won't be as good as in the original printed version.
- The content is not searchable, as it would be in a standard PDF.
To make the book easier to get around in, we've bookmarked all the sections and chapters. So you'll probably want to display the Bookmarks tab in the Adobe Reader, and use it to jump around to the content you want. We've also included the book's index to help you locate specific topics more easily. And there are no printing restrictions, so you can print out as much of the book as you want if it's easier for you to read that way. All we ask is that you not copy and distribute the book to others.
