What’s in Book Programs?

This file contains the source code for sample programs selected from the book. These include report programs, file update and maintenance programs, and query programs that are typical of the types of programs you’ll develop every day on the job. This file also contains a Readme document that summarizes what programs are included and how they relate to the chapters in the book.

What’s in Student Materials?

This file contains (1) a student workbook in PDF format with learning aids like chapter objectives, summary points, and projects, and (2) the files you need to do the projects. Although these materials are designed primarily for students or trainees who are using this book for a class, they can also be used for self-study.

What’s in All Net Express Files?

This file contains two documents in PDF format: a Net Express tutorial and a set of Net Express exercises. It also contains the files you need to do the exercises.

The Net Express tutorial shows you how to use the Integrated Development Environment of Micro Focus Net Express to edit, compile, test, and debug COBOL programs. So if you’re using Net Express in conjunction with our book, we suggest that you read this tutorial to save yourself some trial-and-error. Then, the Net Express exercises let you practice what you’re learning in each chapter. And the supporting files for the exercises include any starting code you need to do the exercises, as well as data files for testing your exercise solutions.

By the way, these documents work for the previous edition of Net Express (known as Net Express 4.0 or Net Express with .NET) as well as for the current 5.0 edition.
