Murach's Visual Basic 2008
This is the third edition of a book that's become a favorite of instructors in programs with a career-oriented curriculum...and of their students as well. Unlike books like Bradley/Millspaugh or Zak, this book gives your students a practical view of how Windows Forms applications are developed in the real world.
By the time your students complete chapter 7,
for example, they will be able to develop bulletproof
applications that do data validation and exception handling.
And by the time they complete chapter 12, they'll be
able to develop object-oriented applications.
Many instructors use this book for a two- or three-course series. And for advanced courses, you're going to be hard-pressed to find a better book:
- In sections 1 and 2, your students can review the essential skills that they often don't learn in introductory courses that use other books.
- In section 3, your students can learn how to develop Windows database applications.
- In section 4, your students can learn all of the intricacies of object-oriented programming.
And because the sections are modular, you can teach the subjects in whatever sequence you prefer.
Changes from the 2005 edition: Although there are changes to the .NET Framework, there isn't a
lot of change in the VB language or the Visual Studio environment in the 2008 release.
So if you're using Murach's Visual Basic 2005 and want
to upgrade to the 2008 edition, you won't have to make major adjustments
to your course outside of section 3, on database programming
(that section has been abridged, as we will have a full
book on ADO.NET 3.5). There is also a new chapter in
section 5 on LINQ.
Training aids in the book itself: Practice exercises
