Murach's Java Servlets and JSP (1st Edition)
Note: We've now published a 2nd
Edition of this book that covers the current releases
of Java and Tomcat. So unless you're using Java 1.4
and Tomcat 4.0 and aren't able to upgrade, we recommend
you get the 2nd Edition instead.
Once your trainees have the core Java skills, you can use this book to teach them web programming using servlets and Java Server Pages.
From the feedback we get, the #1 reason both trainers
and trainees like this book so much is its logical approach
to the subject. As one trainee put it, "None of the
other books laid the concepts out in such bite-sized,
orderly chunks of practical knowledge as did yours.
Upon completing each chapter, I walk away with actual
knowledge that that brings me closer to completing a
true-to-life application instead of a random sampling
of scattered information." Of course, that logical
progression makes it much easier to create and run an
effective course.
One caveat: This book is based on Java 1.4. As a result, there are some minor changes you may have to make to the code in the book examples for later versions of Java. To review these, please go to Using newer versions of Tomcat and Java in our Books section.
Training aids in the book itself: Instructional
objectives and practice exercises by chapter; Source
code and data for all of the applications in the book
(on the bound-in CD)
Instructor's CD
The Instructor's CD for this book includes these materials:
- PowerPoint slides for classroom presentations
- Solutions for the exercises in the book
- Student projects and model solutions
- Review questions
- Tests (with multiple-choice and short-answer questions) and test answers; these are based on the instructional objectives at the end of each chapter of the book
To preview these materials, you can download
a sample of them. Then, if you like what you see,
you can get the complete CD. For more information, just
email us at murachbooks@murach.com
or call us at 1-800-221-5528.
About the download of sample materials
When you download the sample materials, they're copied to your system in a single file named JSPSample.zip. We recommend unzipping the contents into a folder named C:\Murach.
Before you start evaluating the materials, please review
the document named Guide Summary in the Sample IG folder. It introduces the other
components in this sample, and it summarizes what isn't
included in the sample but is included in the full Instructor's
CD (like the test answers).
