Murach's Visual Basic 2008
As our foundation book for VB 2008 development, this
book teaches how to use Visual Studio 2008 and VB 2008
to develop Windows Form applications. You can use it
with developers who come to the subject with a background
in an earlier release of VB, as well as those who are
completely new to VB or .NET development.
Two ways that this book stands out from other VB 2008
titles are in its practical handling of database processing
and its lucid coverage of object-oriented programming.
So by the end of this course, your trainees will be
able to build 3-tier, object-oriented, database applications.
And they'll be fully prepared to master web programming
with ASP.NET 3.5 and database programming with object
data sources using ADO.NET 3.5.
Changes from the 2005 edition: Although there are changes to the .NET Framework, there isn't a
lot of change in the VB language or the Visual Studio environment in the 2008 release.
So if you've been using Murach's Visual Basic 2005
and want to upgrade to the 2008 edition, you won't have
to make major adjustments to your course outside of
section 3, on database programming (that section has
been abridged, as we will have a full book on ADO.NET
3.5). There is also a new chapter in section 5 on LINQ.
Training aids in the book itself: Practice exercises
