Please note that this book has been replaced by Murach’s ASP.NET 4.5 with C# 2012. As a result, you should only buy this version if you’re still using Visual Studio 2008 and ASP.NET 3.5 or if this version is required by a course.

This is the third edition of our classic ASP.NET web programming book. It assumes that you already know how to use C#, but otherwise it works for beginners and it works for professionals on the job.

How do I run an application that uses the Access database you provide under IIS on a 64-bit system?

Because the Jet OLE DB provider you use to work with an Access database is 32-bit, you can’t use it with the default 64-bit processing that IIS provides. To run the applications that use the 32- bit provider, then, you will need to enable 32-bit applications in the default application pool of IIS.

To do that, display the IIS Management Console (see step 1 on page 967 of our book), highlight the Application Pools node in the Connections pane, select the DefaultAppPool item in the Application Pools window, and then click the Advanced Settings link in the Actions window to display the Advanced Settings dialog box. Finally, set the Enable 32-Bit Applications option in the General category to True.
