Several of the chapters in Murach’s Mainframe COBOL introduce IBM subjects that are covered more fully in our other books:

Chapter 18, on how to use JCL to compile and test your programs on an IBM mainframe, is just a small subset of all you can learn about job-control language in Murach's OS/390 and z/OS JCL.

Chapter 18 also shows you how to use the ISPF text editor to develop your programs. You can learn more about ISPF and the TSO commands that underlie it in MVS TSO, Part 1 and Part 2.

Chapter 19 shows you how to work with VSAM files using the VSAM utility, Access Method Services. Again, this subject is covered in more detail in Murach's OS/390 and z/OS JCL.

Chapter 20 introduces you to coding interactive programs on an IBM mainframe using CICS, a subject that’s treated fully in Murach's CICS for the COBOL Programmer.

Likewise, chapter 21 introduces you to database programming using DB2, the subject of DB2 for the COBOL Programmer, Part 1 and Part 2.

Finally, some IBM shops do database processing using Oracle databases. Although this isn’t covered in Murach’s Mainframe COBOL, you can learn how to access Oracle databases in Murach's Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.
