Meet the author

Prentiss Knowlton was introduced to computers by his high school physics teacher, and he's been immersed in C (and its descendants) since it came into practical use in the 70's. So he's seen the language through all its permutations to its current incarnation as Visual C++, and he knows it inside-out.

As a result, Pren brings a wealth of practical experience to this C++ book. He's used C/C++ extensively in working with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), on jobs like: developing modeling software for the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Spirit and Opportunity Rovers; working on the simulation and modeling of microprocessors aboard the Cassini Saturn lander; and developing software for the operation of tracking station ground support telecommunications systems. He's also worked with companies in computer factory automation, as well as on projects for various telecommunications companies in the areas of traffic analysis, automated billing, and computer-assisted handling of calls by live operators.

But that's not all! Pren also brings a wealth of training expertise to this book. Along with handling corporate training assignments, he's been a UCLA Extension instructor for more than 20 years, teaching C, C++, Visual C++, C#, and Java. He began using Murach's C# in 2005 and liked it so much that he offered to write Murach's C++ 2008 following the same model...an offer we couldn't refuse!

Now, we're delighted to publish Pren's C++ 2008 book. Take advantage of his extensive experience and teaching ability to master C++ as quickly and easily as possible.
