Our courseware components
In general, we provide the components that follow for
the courses that we offer. To find out what components
are available for a specific book, you can go to the

have questions or you need something else, please contact

The book
Our customers continue to tell us that our books are the most effective delivery systems for course content that they've ever used...at any price. That's why our books are the key components for all of our courses.
The trainee materials
For most of our books, the primary trainee materials are programming exercises and/or projects that the trainees can use to practice the skills they've learned in each chapter, either on their own or in class.
Sometimes, these exercises are printed at the ends of the chapters, sometimes they're on the Instructor's CD for the book, and sometimes they can be downloaded from our web site. To provide the most practice in the least time, we supply the starting code for most of these exercises so that trainees can focus on practicing their new skills without having to repeat routine coding.
As for the projects, they're always on the Instructor's CD. They're more extensive than the exercises, and having them on the CD makes it easier for you to modify them to suit the aptitudes and progress of your trainees.
For some books, we also provide other trainee materials
like instructional objectives and review questions. But it
is the exercises that help trainees the most by letting
them practice the skills they've just learned.
The required application software
For most of our books, we assume that the trainees have the required software.
There's only one exception: For a course that uses
our Mainframe COBOL book, we sell Micro
Focus Net Express 5.0 on CD. This is
a modern IDE and COBOL compiler that lets the trainees
enter, edit, compile, test, and step through COBOL code
on their own PCs.
To help you get the most from this product, we offer a free Net Express tutorial and a special set of exercises that are designed for Net Express. By using Net Express, your trainees can focus on learning COBOL without having to learn how to deal with the complexities of using a mainframe, which can be dealt with later. Although this approach isn't for everybody, it can speed up COBOL training considerably.
(Note: The Net Express installation requires that one of the components of Microsoft's .NET 2.0 Framework, like Visual Basic 2005 Express, be installed on the system.)
In general, the Instructor's CD for a book provides everything else you need for running an effective course. That usually includes:
- Instructional objectives for each chapter
- PowerPoint slides
- All of the book's applications so you can demonstrate them in class
- All of the trainee materials so you can distribute them in class
- Solutions to the exercises
- Projects that ask the trainees to build applications from scratch
- Solutions to the projects
- Tests (or a test bank)
